Barbara Ann Gerken (nee Spindler), 80, of Vermilion, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a short illness.
She was born October 2, 1941, in Marietta, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years moving from Lorain.
Barbara worked for Captain Larry's restaurant as a server for many years.
Barbara was an active member of St. Mary Parish, Vermilion; a founding member of the AMVETS Post 22 Women's Auxiliary, a poll worker for Erie County for 25 years, the first female Bailiff in Erie County, former volunteer at New Life Hospice, she loved going to concerts, dining with friends, and spending time with family. She had a deep love for animals.
She is survived by her sons, Steven (Anita) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael (Valerie) of Lorain and James of Lorain; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth (Sandy) Spindler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald C. Gerken in 2008; parents, Herbert and Anna (nee Strahler) Spindler.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
