Rotary STRIVE Student of the Month

Rotary STRIVE coordinator Kurt Innes with STRIVE Student of the Month Sierra Khoury.

The Rotary Club of Vermilion is very proud to announce their STRIVE (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) Student of the Month, Sierra Khoury.  Rotary is working with counselors and tutors with students who wish to learn more about exciting and challenging career opportunities that could make a huge difference in their future.

Sierra Khoury is a senior at Vermilion High School who is enrolled in the Work Force Development Program. She is an outstanding young lady who is motivated and determined to succeed not only in school but at her job. Sierra is currently employed at Subway on Route 60 and has been there for over a year and was promoted to assistant manager within two months of her employment. Sierra and her staff do a tremendous job of keeping the store clean and decorated for the seasons and display tremendous customer service. After high school, she plans on attending Tri-C and will be enrolled into their Zoo Tech program. Congratulations to Sierra!

Rotary International is a worldwide organization that focuses on service in our community and world.  We are a part of Rotary District 6600 here in northwest Ohio, made up of 63 individual clubs.  Over the years Rotary Clubs have created thousands of local and international service projects, either individually or in groups.  Our largest international project has been to eradicate Polio from the face of the earth.  Twenty-five years ago, new Polio cases worldwide exceeded 300,000 annually.  Due to the work and funds from thousands of Rotary Clubs, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, outbreaks have been reduced to less than 3 worldwide in 2021!  A recent example of our club's contribution to Vermilion was the distribution of 33 free hand-sanitizing units distributed to businesses and churches, to reduce the chance of disease (COVID) transfer.  For more information about service opportunities with Rotary, please contact club president John Hill, at 440-858-7669, or"
